Californians for an Alternative in November

Members of the Legislature: 0
Highest Office Won: None
Founded: 1968

The group, "Californians for an Alternative in November" was formed after Senator Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota lost his bid for the Democratic nomination for President in 1968. Robert Kennedy had won the California Primary by 4.5% over McCarthy, but was assassinated in California just minutes after announcing victory. Hubert Humphrey eventually won the Democratic nomination, but McCarthy supporters created the "Californians for an Alternative" organization to keep him on the ballot.
